Step 1: Subtract the # of questions you got wrong from the total # of questions on the exam.
(**Example: Joan missed 9 out of 40 questions; therefore she answered 31 questions correctly.)
Step 2: The value of each question was 1/2 point; therefore, multiply the # of questions answered correctly by 1/2 point...
(**Example: 31 correct x 1/2 point ea. = 15.5 points; thus, Joan's score on the exam was 15.5 out of 20.)
Step 3: CONVERSION. To convert an exam score to a percentage - for the purpose of "understanding" how you are doing - divide the EXAM SCORE by the total number of points available on the exam.
(**Example: If your exam score was 15.5/20, divide 15.5 by 20. You will come up with the following percentage: 77.5%. Alternately, you may multiple your exam score by 5... 15.5 x 5... in which case, you will also come up with 77.5 .)
